Washington County State Recreation Area, Nashville, Illinois

Location

Washington County State Recreation area is located four miles south of Nashville, Illinois. The park encompasses 900 acres of land which includes a 248 acre lake. The park is a great place to enjoy camping while doing a little fishing on the lake.

Camping

Washington County State Recreation Area has 38 Class A Electrical sites with 2 being handicapped that can be reserved as well as several first come first serve sites. The shower houses are open from April 1st through October 31st each year. The shower house is clean and in good shape as well as the dump station. Several sites have trees close to the camping pad which could make it challenging for larger rigs to get into some of the sites. Please scout it out or call ahead to make sure the site is right for you.

This is also an older campground and the electrical needs an upgrade. There are signs up warning not to run more than one large appliance at a time or it could knock out power to the park after which it may take some time to restore. This may be an issue when the campground is full creating more demand. There were only 10 campers there during our visit and we had no issue running the air and other items at the same time.

There are several trees throughout the electric campsites and it looks like it would provide large amounts of shade for most sites. We like the large amounts of shade especially during the summer months. There is little traffic in the park so it is great for biking on the park roads.

  • There are seven picnic areas scattered throughout the park.
• Fishing
  • Fish for largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish, crappie, channel catfish, or carp in the 248 lake.
• Boating
  • Boats are limited to 10 HP motors. There are two ramps on the lake.
• Archery Range
  • There is an archery range located near the tent camping area.
