James M. Robb Colorado River State Park – Island Acres Location
James M. Robb Colorado River State Park is actually made up of five distinct sections. We stayed at the Island Acres location to be further from town. James M. Robb Colorado River State Park Island Acres is located 17.9 miles east of Grand Junction right off of Interstate 70. The campground is nestled along the Colorado River in Debeque Canyon.

Reservations can be made up to six months in advance through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website. All electric sites are 30 amps. All full hookup sites are 30 amps with the exception of sites 61, 62, 79, and 80. Campsites have fire rings, picnic tables, and stand up grills with some having a covered area over the picnic tables.
We stayed on site 10 which was a pull through 30 amp electric site. We were only feet away from the Colorado River with beautiful views of the canyon walls just on the other side of the river.
James M. Robb Colorado River State Park – Amenities
- Three fishing lakes, two which are stocked
- Fourth lake with a sandy beach swimming area
- Two Playgrounds
- Showers and Laundry
Out campsite was literally feet from the Colorado River and you are in a valley surrounded by mountains. This area is hot but what a view. We were going to Arches National Park and Ouray so we felt this was a good location rather than jumping campgrounds. The site was a pull through, had one small tree so limited shade, and a covered picnic table. Only negative is being so close to Interstate 70.
